Jem Iwatsubo
LPC, NCC, Clinical Supervisor
My goal is to create a space where both partners feel safe, heard, and understood. I help couples break out of stuck patterns and reconnect in more meaningful ways. Together, we’ll shine a light on the things that may have been pushed aside and start to rebuild a stronger, more collaborative relationship.
My background is in family therapy, and over time I’ve come to see how powerful it is when couples begin working as a team instead of opponents. That realization is what led me to specialize in couples work, diving into what builds lasting love, what throws us off track, and how we can return to each other with honesty and compassion.
I know relationships can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re caught in the same argument or shut-down over and over again. I bring a fresh perspective that honors the pain while helping you find new ways forward. My approach combines Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness, and insights from Structural Family Therapy, tailored to your unique relationship.
I’ve been practicing in the Charlottesville area since 2016, and over the years, I’ve shaped my practice around what I love most, helping couples heal and reconnect.
I also supervise and mentor new therapists, and I care deeply about building a field where both clients and clinicians feel supported, grounded, and empowered.
If you’re wondering whether we’d be a good fit, feel free to call or email me for a brief consultation. I’d love to hear your story and see how I can support you.
